    FAQ

    Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my sump pump is working?
Test your sump pump monthly by pouring water into the basin until the float rises and the pump activates. The pump should turn on, discharge water, and shut off automatically. If it doesn't, call us for service.
How long do sump pumps last?
Quality sump pumps typically last 7-10 years. Pumps that run frequently or are in harsh environments may need replacement sooner. Regular maintenance extends pump life and ensures reliability.
Do I need a battery backup sump pump?
Battery backup systems are highly recommended, especially in areas prone to power outages. Many heavy rains that cause flooding also knock out power. A backup system provides protection when you need it most.
What's the difference between a sump pump and sewage pump?
Sump pumps handle clear groundwater from foundations and basements. Sewage ejector pumps handle waste water from below-grade toilets and drains. Sewage pumps are designed to handle solids and are more robust.
How much does sump pump installation cost?
Basic sump pump installation costs $800-1,500 including pump, basin, and discharge piping. Battery backup systems add $400-800. Costs vary based on basement accessibility, discharge requirements, and pump quality.
Can you install a sump pump alarm?
Yes, we install high-water alarms that alert you if your pump fails or can't keep up with water flow. Some systems send alerts to your phone so you know when the system needs attention.

"We had to have an old cast iron sewer line under our slab replaced. Mike came out several times before, during & after the tunnel crew dug the tunnel to make sure everything was done right. He took pictures before & after, & communicated well. He was in the tunnel all day & did a great job. We are relieved it is done & very happy with the service."

"Just had an excellent experience with Economy Plumbing. A drain line was clogged somewhere between kitchen and main sewer line. Called Economy Plumbing on Friday morning and was scheduled with an afternoon window for Friday afternoon. Luke arrived within the scheduled window and was very professional, courteous, and answered all questions. He provided a reasonable quote before beginning the task of clearing the clog. He took great care getting equipment in and out of the house. Luke was very thorough snaking the line. He made sure the clog was completely cleared by having us run washing machine and sink water simultaneously as a max condition test on the drain line before packing up his gear. I would highly recommend Economy Plumbing."
